Classroom Edition: I Am an Early Writer Journal (Paperback Only)

I Am an Early Writer Journal is part of the Sprout to Read and Write series and works in partnership with the parenting guides from Sprout to Read and Write Parent Academy. This classroom journal complements the work that families are guided through at home and gives children a consistent, developmentally aligned space to practice early writing at school.

Inside, children will have access to over twenty pages dedicated to each stage of early writing, more than enough pages for each day of the school year. Teachers value the scaffolded progression of the journal, as it promotes student progress through each writing stage.

The journal begins with playful scribbles and drawings and gradually moves toward letter like forms, beginning sounds, and early words. Each section is thoughtfully organized so children can practice the strokes, shapes, and patterns they are ready for. The journal grows with each child and helps them build confidence one page at a time.

To support classroom instruction, each page includes lightly grayed out teacher guidance that can be read and drawn over. These gentle prompts help educators understand what children are practicing and how to support them during writing time. Teachers can model writing, encourage effort, and celebrate every mark while keeping the focus on joyful practice. Keep writing joyful by adding topics aligned to unit themes or children’s interests.
