Our Story
Sprout to Read was born out of a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves the chance to fall in love with reading and writing, and that journey begins long before kindergarten.
We created Sprout to Read for the parents staying up late wondering if they're doing enough, and for the dedicated early childhood educators who show up every day to plant seeds of curiosity in young minds. You are our people, and this is for you.
Our Mission
Sprout to Read was created with one big mission: to put reading readiness knowledge, including the earliest stages of writing, into the hands of every family with a preschooler. We believe parents and guardians deserve simple, clear steps that make preparing a child for kindergarten reading and writing feel natural, joyful, and doable in everyday life.
Our Vision
Our vision is bold but beautifully simple. We want the 10 steps to preparing to read, from visual discrimination to phonological awareness, and steps to support early writing, to become common knowledge for everyone, just like colors, shapes, and ABCs. When families understand these early skills, every child can enter kindergarten confident, curious, and ready to thrive.
Why We Do This
The preschool years, ages 3 and 4, are one of the most important windows in a child's development. Research consistently shows that children who build strong early literacy foundations are better prepared for school, more confident as learners, and more likely to become lifelong readers.
But we also know that navigating early literacy can feel overwhelming. What should a 3-year-old know? How do you make writing fun for a 4-year-old? Where do you even start?
That's exactly why we created our step-by-step resources, to take the guesswork out of early literacy and make it accessible, joyful, and effective for every family and classroom.
What We Offer
Our books and guides are thoughtfully designed to support both reading and writing readiness. We offer resources in English and Spanish because we believe that every child's home language is an asset, and that multilingual families and classrooms deserve tools that reflect their richness.
Our Promise to You
Whether you're a parent reading bedtime stories on the couch or a teacher leading circle time in a busy classroom, we're here to support you every step of the way. Simple, research-informed, and full of heart. That's the Sprout to Read way.
Let's grow readers and writers together.
